Robert Norman Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995) was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, and also aired in Canada, Latin America, and Europe. With a soft voice and a permed afro, Ross went from being a public-television personality in the 1980s and 1990s to being an Internet celebrity in the 21st century, popular with fans on YouTube and many other websites.[1][2]

Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for reminding us that today is the anniversary of the birth of American painter, art instructor, and television host of The Joy of Painting Robert Norman Ross.
It is interesting that this talented artist has increased in popularity since his death over 20 years ago on July 4, 1995 not because of his art per se but because of his television appearances with his soft voice and a permed afro :-)

I have a Bob Ross T-shirt that says "No mistakes, just happy accidents". I have re-watched many of his episodes now that they are on Netflix. A gem he was indeed.

I watched whenever he was on. I have his shows saved from You Tube that I follow from time to time when I am painting.
