I understand a reluctance to use anti-crop chemical weapons in Vietnam SP5 Mark Kuzinski; but, I had to chuckle when I read that this group of celebrities urged that antipersonnel weapons not be used. Anti-personnel weapons include rifles, machine guns, pistols, bayonets, knives, machetes, grenades, artillery, mortars, flame throwers, helicopter launched rockets, M-18 Claymore mines and land mines. We have been one of the few nations that does a great job of tracking where and when we lay mines with detailed maps. Without the weapons I listed and others war could not be conducted. These congressmen and "22 eminent U.S. scientists, including seven Nobel laureates" wanted to unilaterally tie the hands of our service members. They may have naively thought that the NVA and the Viet Cong would do likewise. All of these supposed experts were alive in 1938 when England and France capitulated to Hitler in 1938 at Munich in the foolish belief that war would be avoided by giving away a large part of Czechoslovakia. Some people never seem to learn :-)

Maybe they thought US forces and the NVA could stage epic hopscotch matches to decide victory.
