Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that in 1960 the South Vietnamese government requested that Washington double U.S. Military Assistance and Advisory Group (MAAG-Vietnam) strength from 342 to 685.
It is useful to remember that MAAG-Vietnam had U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps elements that provided advice and assistance to the South Vietnamese Ministry of Defense, Joint General Staff and corps and division commanders, as well as to training centers and province and district headquarters. Those assets and Special Forces were able to focus training efforts and achieve some great results locally if not consistently at a national level.
Kudos to each and every service member who was part of MAAG-Vietnam!
