In Search of Carr’s Fort chronicles the search for archaeological evidence of a small but significant battle of the American Revolution fought in the Georgia...
Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on February 10, 1779 a force of more than 340 men from the South Carolina and Georgia militias, led by Colonel Andrew Pickens of South Carolina with Colonel John Dooly and Lieutenant Colonel Elijah Clarke of Georgia, attacked a group of approximately 200 Loyalists under the command of Colonel John Hamilton at Robert Carr’s Fort, in Wilkes County, Georgia.
"In Search of Carr’s Fort chronicles the search for archaeological evidence of a small but significant battle of the American Revolution fought in the Georgia backcountry.
The film weaves a narrative that transitions from the story of the February 10, 1779 Battle of Carr’s Fort, in which legendary Patriot general Andrew Pickens faced off against a small but determined force of Loyalist militia inside a local log fortification, and the efforts of a small team of dedicated archaeologists to unearth the battle’s secrets. With funding a Battlefield Protection Program grant from the National Park Service, Dan and Rita Elliott of the LAMAR Institute led the successful effort to locate the fort’s position and fill in the blank spaces in the story of the battle. Their discoveries help form the basis of a more complete understanding of the American Revolution fought in this often-overlooked region.
This film is the official documentary about the project."
