And the UCMJ treats everyone equally huh? Not one Flag Officer in any charge sheet or going to be investigated? Hmmm...

PO2 Richard Blakey You’re missing out!! You have to at least be counseled and recommend once or twice for a company and field grade. It USED to be a rite of passage. Now it’s a ‘rite’ of being shown the door.

Bill, I am beside myself every time I read these accounts of who is to blame and why. I fully understand that I was brought up in a different Navy, but, I read Combs failed to communicate with the bridge, but where are the other watch standers in CIC? Surely she was not alone! Is there not a CPO there or at least an LPO present on watch in CIC? Where was the quartermaster? If you see something, say something, otherwise you are just as guilty! Where was the senior watch officer? I just can't wrap my head around this entire event! It was a total systemic failure to execute duties and responsibilities! This was not just one isolated brain fart, this lack of competence should have been seen by many long before this incident! We need to get some old CPO's back in the Navy and take charge once again! Where were all the CPO's? I have a sick feeling this lack of competence and leadership is missing all through the Navy and will be found NAVY WIDE! What are your thoughts LCDR (Join to see) ? Is our Navy now so politically correct no one will say anything for fears of offending another?

CMDCM Gene Treants - It was different from when I went on summer cruises to after I got commissioned. Very different. I understand there was a need to reduce crews, but I think we cut too far. There just aren't enough battle ready spares when you are cut by 25%.... Nothing seems to have changed in 20 years....

If you read some of Admiral Rickover he talks about the normalcy of Deviation, how pressure can cause humans to take shortcuts and the worst outcome to this behavior is that nothing bad happens. Because as we all know the easier way becomes the standard and when safety standards get compromised people get hurt or worse. There is a reason the nuclear navy has never had a reactor incident. Mr Rickover created a culture of exceptional standards they DO NOT get lowered. Meet the standards or you are out. He delayed the construction of the Nautalius by weeks due to sub standard steam piping despite extreme pressure from Washington to continue construction and beat the Russians to the first nuke powered sub.

The TAO only had a handful of maneuvering situations on her watch in the most heavily congested waterway in the world.... makes no sense, and is terribly sad.

SPC Eric Hurdle - Its awesome that different services get involved in all different types of stories, but have to remember that we all speak foreign languages... except firepower, Firepower is a language all its own!
