Thanks for sharing CW5 Jack Cardwell surrendering to the USA or British soldiers was much more preferable for German soldiers especially any Waffen SS solders.
I looked for Waffen SS Deaths Head insignia, or their unique rank insignia but didn't see any.
Update 1stSgt Eugene Harless noted at "the :22 second mark the death's head is clearly visible on the collar."
Since Adolph Hitler committed suicide on April 30, German military units were moving west to surrender to USA and British forces [including commonwealth]. Death awaited most of those surrendering to USSR and Polish forces.
I expect the Waffen SS soldier fell in with a group of panzer grenadiers. The units were mixed in the video which supports my hypothesis that this was a mixed group of unit soldiers.

Thanks for sharing the correct to my assessment 1stSgt Eugene Harless - that indicates one Waffen SS soldier. Most seemed to be panzer grenadiers and I expect the Waffen SS soldier was trying to blend in with the crowd as Germany was falling apart.
I edited my response based on your correction.
