Nov. 24, 1963 – Vietnam War
Two days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, President Lyndon B. Johnson confirms the U.S. intention to continue military and economic support to South Vietnam. He instructed Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, in Washington for consultations following South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem’s assassination, to communicate his intention to the new South Vietnamese leadership. Johnson’s first decision about Vietnam was effectively to continue Kennedy’s policy.
Nov. 24, 1964 – USS Princeton (LPH-5) completes 7-days of humanitarian relief to South Vietnam which suffered damage from typhoon and floods.

If one steps back to view the broader picture, the conspiracy theories disappear. Stalin laid out the strategy for world domination. There was nothing secret about it, and Vietnam was just one target. Simultaneous attacks were launched at multiple points. When the US engaged in Vietnam, the Soviets focused their attention on defeating US. The other invasions stalled for want of their support. If Congress had not snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, the Soviets defeat would have been complete. The only conspiracy regarding the assassination of JFK that made sense to me involved the Mafia taking vengeance for his failure to follow through on the invasion of Cubs. However, even that fails in the harsh glare of critical scrutiny
