I am among those who were critical of the F35 program (though not the plane as envisioned). It's good to see that critical issues are being resolved. As soon as the last are completed, then, and only then, it would be wise to begin abandoning aircraft that are inferior. Of course, this doesn't include the A-10. I don't see the F35 replacing that and I haven't seen anything resembling a qualified replacement

Totally agree that the F-35 can't pick up the A-10 mission, regardless of what the Air Force says. Coming from a background with the F-111 I also understand the time it takes to resolve "critical issues". That doesn't mean there is a problem with the aircraft, it means that caution is prevailing in allowing the aircraft to do what it was designed for.

Sgt (Join to see) Probably the Best Multi-Task, Multi-Force Aircraft Invented. I'm Not Sure that I'm Thrilled with all the Compromises Necessary to Reach that Goal. Still and Outstanding Aircraft.

MAJ Ken Landgren No speed isn't negligible and can be a factor, but speed over endurance is the major factor. Being able to go fast is meaningless if you have no fuel and too much going fast puts you in a no fuel situation quickly.

MAJ Ken Landgren - That's an interesting piece of information that I will have to check out!!!

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Your response sounds quite reasonable to me, Jack...

MAJ Ken Landgren
Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Well that is a problem on both sides, it is not exclusive to foreign fighters. You can not rule out all the possibilities or scenarios nor is it correct to imply we always will win based upon refueling and reliability. Speaking of reliability, our $100 million fighter can't fly a sustained MACH 1 due to an unreliable structure. What else is unreliable? What if the enemy can get to the battlefield much faster than the F-35s?
