Bloodless coup seems like an oxymoron SP5 Mark Kuzinski. While the actual event of a military takeover may not cause direct blood loss, the aftermath can certainly result in many deaths.
I find it ironic that the "faction of younger military officers known as the “Young Turks,” who were fed up with what they believed was the ineffective government headed by a group of older generals known as the Military Revolutionary Council." Young Turks refers directly to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the 1908 revolution in Turkey.
The fact that this coup occurred roughly one year after the earlier coup that resulted in the murder of President Ngo Dinh Diem was an indicator of how unstable Vietnam really was. After all it had only been in existence since 1954. Remembering back to our own revolutionary period, we had turmoil form 1776 to 1787 but after that we had relative stability until the war of 1812. It helped that much of Europe was embroiled in the Napoleonic wars [1799-1815].
This year we have seen another Turkish attempt at a coup which was anything but blood less.
