Thanks for sharing an interesting read, as usual SGT John " Mac " McConnell. There were many challenging aspects to life on the frontiers in the mid-19th century for US civilians, Mexican civilians, Sioux, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Crow, Arapahoe, Comanche, Apache, and every other indigenous tribe in the west.
Many people lived peaceful fro decades but bloodshed and violence certainly disrupted life. That is what piques the interest of many moderns.

There's a western called Appaloosa, which is one of the best films I have ever seen in this genre.

SGT John " Mac " McConnell - I am a big fan of the idealized John Ford movies starring John Wayne. I realized they are not always historically accurate, but they do capture the spirit of the age. And in my humble opinion nothing is better than Technicolor, to capture the Deep Red tones of the American Southwestern desert.
