Iran student leader says he regrets 1979 US Embassy attack

Thank you, my friend SSG Robert Mark Odom for making us aware that 40 years later one of the student leader who led the seizure of the U.S. embassy and the 444-day hostage crisis Ebrahim Asgharzadeh in reflection now regrets the seizure of the U.S. embassy as he stated "Like Jesus Christ, I bear all the sins on my shoulders."

I was a senior cadet at USMA, West Point at the time. In 1981, I purchased a Dodge Omni which had been destined for Iran when the hostages were taken. The US government requirement was that the cars be sold to US service people stationed OCONUS. I picked up my car in Bremerhaven along with a year of auto insurance at no cost to me [great benefit for 24 year old single man :-)

I knew that former president of Iran was one of the student revolutionary leaders. I wonder what would have happened had to taken over the Soviet Embassy instead?
