ISIS still has former Baathist-party military-leaders form the Saddam days with tactical and operational experience probably overseeing these operations from a distance thanks to our warning about the operation.
Expect tactical surprises in Iraq. The reason the attack on Mosul is going quicker than expected is because ISIS is planning surprises for the occupying/liberating forces. Don't be surprised if chem or bio weapons are deployed. Potential childish rationale "If I can't play in that sandbox - nobody will be able to for a long time."
My expectation is that:
1. ISIS is maintaining suicidal forces mixed with skilled military fighters in Iraq to keep Iraq engaged.
2. ISIS is engaged in a world-wide battle against anybody that is not aligned with their Wahhabi Muslim doctrine views. They will increasingly be causing pain and destruction in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.
3. ISIS has sleeper cells in the USA and Europe primarily with others in Africa and Asia.
4. The core of ISIS's future efforts is deployed or deploying while the fighters in Iraq and many in northern Syria are considering themselves the Mujahideen because they believe they are engaged in holy jihad.
5. Those ISIS members, leaders and facilitators who have emigrated also considers themselves to be Mujahideen who are taking the long term view of the holy jihad - decades and centuries if need be.
