Thanks for reminding us SP5 Mark Kuzinski that in 1966 the International Red Cross announced in Geneva that North Vietnam rejected a proposal by President Johnson for a resolution of the prisoner of war situation. He had proposed a joint discussion of fair treatment and possible exchange of war captives held by both sides. Fair treatment was anathema to the North Vietnamese.
I was interested to see Capt Seid Waddell's response which sheds light on another aspect - namely I don't wanna go home pleases by captured NVA soldiers.

In the '73 prisoner release many North Vietnamese captives didn't want to be returned to the North.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski, one wonders what happened to them when the South fell. Probably not anything pleasant.
