Farm Gate is an interesting name for an operation SP5 Mark Kuzinski I suspect that having a Vietnamese national on each flight may have given us a clue to the operation name.
I wonder how many of the Vietnamese who took part in this operation were around when Vietnamization took place at the end of the decade.
It is noteworthy that the 4400th Combat Crew Training Squadron used older, propeller-driven aircraft to train South Vietnamese Air Force personnel in combat missions.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski interesting that Kennedy is mentioned in the buildup and not another date is mentioned til 64. So when JFK was assasinated and Johnson took over, who was given the authority to change the mission?

Good morning and great question Maj Kim Patterson . I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee but here is a short summary and answer to your question: The Constitution divides the power to declare war and the power to conduct war between the legislative and executive branches. Article I of the Constitution invests Congress with the authority to declare war and to raise and maintain military forces. Article II of the Constitution establishes the president as commander in chief of the U.S. military and gives that office the authority to lead American military forces and prosecute armed conflicts. In this system, Congress decides whether to fight, and the president as commander in chief manages the fight authorized by Congress. Time for that second cup of coffee.
