Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "NGC 1499: The California Nebula." The California Nebula (it could be the Red Friday Nebula, couldn't it?) shines with the telltale reddish glow characteristic of hydrogen atoms recombining with long lost electrons. The electrons have been stripped away, ionized by energetic starlight. NGC 1499 is about 100 light years long and lies ~1,500 light years away near the constellation Perseus and the Pleiades (in Orion).
