Sgt (Join to see) Finally, something where I know a little. LOL A long time ago I read a book by Kip Thorne called: "Graviton." It takes a thousand pages to explain Einstein's two major papers. (Considering Einstein did it in just seventeen and thirty four pages...) . Then Roger Penrose wrote a book called: "The Road to Reality- A complete guide to the laws of the Universe. Again, a massive tome of over a thousand pages. I naively thought I could work my way through it in a year. Five years later I am still at it. Reading it from cover to cover - as I do all books before I start READING- took me almost two years. Now I am trying for understanding.
God may very well be a Mathematician, and Mathematics has long been thought as the language of God (with Laughter coming in second as the sound of Angels).
We are "made in His image and Likeness"- which means (to me) that we are curious, intelligent, and smart enough to follow his clues. Some Theorists believe that there is an Equation that simply writing it out would cause a Universe to exist. And maybe, that has already happened. The quantum world shakes up our perception of Reality (something Einstein could never reconcile himself to) but of what practical use is that to us in our reality?

We see things in only a few nanometers of wavelengths, and some waves in Nature are light years long, what would our Reality be if we could just see into the infrared? Or if we had sonar like dolphins and bats? Would we not have a different view of Reality with just a few added sensory inputs? Heck, one added dimension, or one less, and we would be talking about a whole different ball game.

I don't do well at problem solving math, but theoretical math I am okay with. So no engineering for me, but Minkowskian Time Space Manifolds and Riemann Spheres - those are interesting things. I have forgotten most of this stuff because I didn't use it everyday, and I am old. But the gist still sticks.

Great input SGT Kevin Hughes!!! This is all fun stuff to me... I cannot get enough of it... I took many mathematics classes in high school and college up through & including Calculus and Differential Equations... I've forgotten most of it, but not the concepts. Same with Physics... I understand the concepts as I did in my Math courses, but I like the Theoretical component to Physics... It is all of the possibilities that are the most interesting to me... Thank you for the detail of your response...

Sgt (Join to see) - sorry Kerry, that is the Autistic part of me. I built a Radio Telescope in my backyard (and Mr. DiGregorios Grape trellis) when I was seven. The next year I built a four inch reflector telescope, and then bigger one. I never lost interest in Science- and like you, the Big Think people fascinate the heck out of me. Finding out just the other day that a Lab at Harvard has learned to take skin cells, turn them into stem cells and then grow them into brain cells...mind boggling. I had no idea they had gone that far. Okay, time to go relax and read a cereal box.

SGT Kevin Hughes - All great stuff, Kevin! Never lose sight of it my friend... It is what some of us dream about, some of us create what is dreamt about... It is how we evolve as people interested in God's fascinating world!
