Thanks for the summary of Parkland SSG Diane R. - Just so you know I believe that we have a lack of parenting in this country and we need to go back to the days when I was brought up my father/mother. There were rules and they were followed, there was discipline given when the rules were broke, and there were activities with the family (my Mother and Father weren't texting 24-7). They did things with the boys and they jknew when something was wrong with us and addressed it immediately and when one of us had problems in school we either got the paddle or our parents where called and that was not a welcome call. Just my 2 cents!

Returning to those days is a nice thought, but I don't see that happening. And, we cannot force it to happen. We cannot force parents to be parents. All we can do is advise. If that advice is ignored, then we have no alternative solution.

Totally agree with you sir, gave my son, and grandson both a couple of swats on the rear when they were little, have never had a problem with either of them. One has respect, and the other knows not to step over the line.

This is such simplistic clap-trap, it's mind numbing. Yessir, lack of parenting, that's the problem. Oh, no, it's the fact that they took God out of public schools. No, no, the US has fallen under the spell of the Homosexual Agenda, and this is God's retribution. Uh, uh, it's those damn secular humanists fault......But it's not really any of this. It's angry young, mostly white guys, with easy access to guns, who are responsible for nearly every one of these mass shootings. And easy access to guns is why there are 33,000 gun related killings in this country every year.....Laws work. Before 1980, there was no National speed limit law in this country. When one was enacted, highway deaths plummeted. When MAD got legislation passed to crack down on drunk driving, DUI's went down 43%. There's no reason to believe that making guns harder to come by wouldn't have the same effect on gun deaths. Especially those guns favored by mass killers.

I remember as a child in school, if I got in trouble at school, and the teacher or principal was going to punish me. I didn't like being punished at school, but I would far rather be punished at school, and have it over, then face punishment at school and have to take a note home to my parents!!! Now the schools drug up all the ROWDY BOYS so they sit sedately in class, almost all mass shootings can be traced to drugged boys. All schools want to eliminate any contact play. No tag, dodge ball, or any physical sports. The only way to keep boys in school with out physical sports is to DRUG THEM, just for being boys!

Just a thought or observation. When I was a kid, if we misbehaved there was usually some adult that would step up and correct our behavior. When our parents found out they supported that adult's actions. Now, if an adult steps up to correct behavior parents attack the adult saying you have no right to correct my kid.

So, we have taught our kids that only the police, ourselves or a teacher can correct them. And, in doing so we have left the kids with the impressions that everyone else is wrong and do not need to listened to.

And even the teacher's role is controlled. A teacher who made a kid stand (by pulling him up) was charged with assault.

Thanks for sharing SSG Diane R. an analysis of the mass-murder at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida.
I had to chuckle at a post from CNN "You don't need a permit to conceal carry a rifle or shotgun, although you do need it to conceal carry a handgun." Concealing a rifle or shotgun is something only criminal would do and therefore it would be covered by other criminal statutes.
Disclaimer: the husband of my wife's cousin in the Miami area is a leader in the SWAT capabilities in that area. He was involved in this incident to apprehend and capture the shooter alive for trial.

The issue with Nikolas Cruz is that with no prior offenses and no documented mental health issues existing law would not have stopped him from purchasing the weapon(s) he used to murder so many.

Armed school security and protocols to limit access -especially for expelled students might have limited the murders. Since two were committed outside there is little that could be done to stop those murders from happening.

Until privacy is reconciled with review and analysis of threatening social medial posts in law there is going to be an opportunity for those without criminal records from plotting and carrying out murders.

In the case of Sandy Hook in 2012, that school district was a gun-free zone. There is little that could be done in those situations since criminals don't obey laws and law abiding folks do.

Thanks for alerting me COL Mikel J. Burroughs
