Good morning RP Family. I pray that our heroes on two wheels are having a successful day as they continue there ride for Veterans. They certainly display great confidence in their ability to ride their motorcycle the distance for their goal to raise 50 thousand dollars. I commend them on their commitment and just wish that I was able to take part. God speed Brothers. Don’t eat too many bugs.

What does the Bible say about confidence?

Bible confidenceaudio Question: "What does the Bible say about confidence?"

Answer: Confidence is a popular subject today. We are told to think confidently, to be self-assured, to live brashly, boldly, and brazenly. In a myriad of ways, the theme of modern society is to be self-confident. Popular religious leaders make confidence the centerpiece of their teaching. Does the Bible agree with this "positive thinking" mantra? If the Bible teaches us to be confident, what should we be confident about? If not, why not?

The word confidence (or its close derivatives) is used 54 times in the King James Version and 60 times in the New International Version. The majority of uses concern trust in people, circumstances, or God.

The Bible says there are some things we should not have confidence in. For example, "Have no confidence in the flesh" (Philippians 3:3). Paul wrote these words to counter the claims of those who thought they were acceptable to God based on their heredity, training, or religious devotion. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), and our résumés and geneaologies don't matter much to Him.

Proverbs 14:16 says that a righteous man departs from evil, but a fool rages in his confidence. In other words, to arrogantly assume that sin has no consequences is a foolish confidence.

If we’re going to be confident in something, Psalm 118:8, 9 tells us what it should be: "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes." Those who trust in government, finances, other people, or themselves will be disappointed in the end. On the other hand, those who put their confidence in God will never be ashamed (Romans 10:11).

Psalm 16 is an excellent example of a positive confidence in God. David takes no credit for his own goodness (verse 2), nor does he extol his own abilities. Instead, every good thing is ascribed to God (verse 6), and every hope is based on God's character (verse 1). Because God is unchanging, David can confidently rest in hope (verse 9), despite any hardships he faces in life (verse 10).

Our confidence comes from our relationship with Christ. He is our High Priest, and through His intercession, we can “approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). The apostles before the Sanhedrin displayed an assurance that amazed their antagonists: “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

We can follow God in full confidence in His wisdom, power, and plan. As we obey the Lord, we have assurance of our salvation (1 John 2:3). Also, having a good conscience aids our confidence, for we will have nothing to hide. “The righteous are as bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1).

Paul gives us something else we can have faith in: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). Knowing that God promises to work in the lives of His children, Paul was confident that God would help the Galatians stand fast in the truth (Galatians 5:10).

When we put our trust in God and His revealed Word, our lives take on a new stability, focus, and poise. A biblical self-confidence is really a confidence in God's Word and character. We put no confidence in our flesh, but we have every confidence in the God who made us, called us, saved us and keeps us.

I pray that you and I demonstrate maturity, humility and courage as required as we exercise confidence in God-given talents and abilities, my friend and brother-in-Christ PO1 H Gene Lawrence and sister-in-Christ Linda Lawrence.
LORD YOU blessed each of YOUR own adopted children with spiritual training wheels and mature elders in Christ to guide us in the early stages. Wise and loving parents emulate YOU in the raising of our own children. We work to train them and guide them and cheer for them as they do things on their own from riding a tricycle to a bicycle to going to school on their own and eventually graduating.
I pray dear God that we will never lord it over anybody and that we will consistently treat each person with respect. Give us humility to ask for help and wisdom, grace, mercy to extend help when requested.
I pray dear God that we each encourage others to use their talents, time and treasure to bless others and that by doing so they and we will have boosts in our own confidence.
I lift up struggling families to YOU including veteran’s families. Bless the widows and orphans and bring trustworthy people into their lives to bless them for the long haul. I lift up those with debilitating injuries and diseases from Agent Orange exposure, through extensive wounds and burns to PTSD. Heal divinely and through medical teams as YOU know best.
LORD, I pray for peace and joy of the family members of the bikers who may be concerned about this road trip and that each and every one has a restful night’s sleep.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

PO3 Bob McCord - Absolutely! You find your place in life - IF you don't meet the wrong person. I did- otherwise I'd have been in for 20. BUT - then I'd not have had my sons, sooooo, guess it all balances out.

PO3 Bob McCord - well no, probably not. Thank you for your service! I was supposed to go to Ft Chaffee AR at one point to process in returnees from Canada. I told them I was NOT the person they needed there and they agreed. There were those who beat-feet the instant orders came down - but wanted to come home when everything was over. The ones I felt for were those who had already done 1-3 tours, came down on orders, and the wives said 'ENOUGH!". I got that.

Good morning COL Mikel J. Burroughs You are nothing if not the model of a self confident leader for the rest of us to both follow and model.
Self confidence is related to self talk. We can talk ourselves up or we can talk ourselves down. I do many groups and many presentations for the Red Cross and before each one I wonder if it will go well. And then I remind myself that I have done bigger groups, less welcoming groups and so this one (whichever that is) will be just fine. And it almost always is. I have the confidence to get out and do what is needed and it works. And the more you do, the better it works.
So, what's your self talk and can you use it to build your self confidence?

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Safe travels today, Mikel & Billy!!! More later!

Just got back to my laptop at about 10:20 am and as I look out of my office window, there is a partly cloudy sky, a slight breeze with a temp of 71 going up to 79-80 today. I hope the weather where you are traveling today will be equally nice to make you and Billy's ride somewhat relaxing! Godspeed to today's destination!

"Self-Confidence", a great word that some of us have difficulty with... We never think we are good enough for whatever we are doing in life..., but there are those who have a good idea what self-confidence is, how to obtain it and maintain it, for the long haul of life.

I have included several of your quotes, which have great meaning to me, and I am sure others as well... I have added a few more as it helps my self-confidence and outlook in life as I have read all of the motivational quotes I have seen and read since I joined RP and began following your outstanding Posts and Leadership! Thank you, Mikel...

1) "Insecure people try to make you feel smaller. Confident People love to see you walk taller." — Anonymous

2) "Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing." — Theodore Roosevelt

3) "Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful." – Mark Victor Hansen

4) "If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price."
– Author Unknown

5) "Self-confidence is the most attractive quality a person can have. How can anyone see how great you are if you can’t see it yourself.” - Unknown

6) "If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." Thomas Alva Edison

...and as you contemplate all of the quotes, as so many have today, never forget that you should always...

"Be self confident in what you do and what you stand for - believe in yourself. You really don't have to convince anyone else. They'll see your confidence shine through." — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs
