Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day is titled "Late Afternoon on Mars." Curiosity landed on Mars August 5, 2012, and has been in service since then. In this image taken this past Monday (Dec 16), Curiosity sits on top of a plateau near Gale Crater. The Sun is to the west behind the rover, and the panorama we see stretches from north to east to south. The monochrome frames from Curiosity's navigation camera have been colorized to approximate the colors of the late martian afternoon.

Well, later is here after suffering an internet outage (No Domain Name Server [DNS])! It is a beautiful image on my much larger screen... so I had to go seek something more and found a great 360° image which one can move up/down and left/right, so can really see the marvelous touraine that Curiosity is scanning!
